Optional Travel

Brasilia (the ultra-modern capital city)

Picture
The world's most famous planned city, and undisputed capital of modernism, Brasilia is Brazil's capital city (and UNESCO World Heritage site). Students interested in architecture should consider visiting this truly unique Brazilian city!

Foz de Iguacu (amazing waterfalls)

Picture
Iguacu falls are one of the most spectacular natural wonders on the planet.  Elanor Roosevelt summed up the spectaculare sight when she said "Poor Niagara! This makes it look like a kitchen faucet".   Learn more here

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Picture
A flight away, Buenos Aires offers "gourmet cuisine, awesome shopping, a frenzied nightlife and top-drawer activities...a cosmopolitan metropolis with both slick neighborhoods and equally downtrodden areas – but that’s part of the appeal."  Learn more here

Sao Paulo (urban metropolis)

Picture
São Paulo (city population over 11 million, metropolitan area over 20 million)  is the biggest city in Brazil, the largest city in the southern hemisphere, and one of the biggest cities / metropolitan areas in the world.  In order to really understand Brazil (and all that it has to offer), students and travelers should get to know this city!  São Paulo is Brazil's economic , social and cultural powerhouse. It is overflowing with banks and mega-corporations, and all the international transactions that involve Brasil  are done in this "pulsating" city. Sao Paulo's nightlife is considered one of the best in the world. The city is full of restaurants from all over the world, live music bars, clubs, world-class museums, cultural centers, theaters, concert halls, and cinemas. The shopping in the city is among the most diverse and sophisticated in the world.  São Paulo is also full of contradictions.  In one way, it is one of the most expensive, cosmopolitan and sophisticated cities on the planet, but in another way, in São Paulo's outskirts you can find some of the worlds largest "favelas" with a life of their own.  In the city-center, São Paulo has an area larger than Manhattan (with a quality of life comparable).  With world- class universities and educational opportunities, São Paulo is a city not to be missed!
