Rio de Janeiro - Accommodations (winter program)

Safe Neighborhoods:
  • In Rio, we only stay in Ipanema, Leblon or Arpoador neighborhoods.  These are very safe and upscale parts of town, surrounded by beaches, nightlife, shopping, restaurants, public transportation and more... all within walking distance.

Housing Discount option (Rio only):
  • In Rio in January, the standard option for housing in Rio de Janeiro is APARTMENTS (which include a kitchen)
  • For students on a tight budget, we do also offer the option of sleeping in dorms in the "Pousada" (Guest House) option. 
  • Summer July 2014 Program: $400 discount
  • Winter January 2014 Program: -- $400 (A1) -- $500 (A3)  -- $600 (A3)
  • In Paraty and in Sao Paulo:  All students have same housing option - pousada (Brazilian Bed & Breakfast) in Paraty,  and a hotel in Sao Paulo

Roommates:
  • SGE will make every attempt to honor roommate requests if you have a friend you want to live with while abroad.

Option #1
Apartments, Flats, "Residence hotels"

Private apartments in Ipanema, Leblon or Arpoador neighborhoods
  • There will be 3 to 4 students to an apartment.  
  • All apartments will have a private bathroom. 
  • Breakfast is normally NOT included, but will have a fully-equipped kitchen included to help you save money in your budgeting.
  • Most will have free or inexpensive WiFi you can purchase 

Options:
  • Size, and quality of the apartments varies depending on availability.  These are not intended to be luxurious, but should be comfortable and safe places to stay while studying in Brazil.

Option #2
Dorm Rooms 

Pousada "guest house hostels" in Ipanema or Leblon neighborhoods
  • There will be 4 to 6 students to a room.  Some rooms have private bathroom, while others have the bathroom down the hall.  
  • Breakfast is normally included, and there normally will be a fully-equipped kitchen included to help you save money in your budgeting.  
  • Most will have free or inexpensive WiFi you can purchase 


Options:
  • In December-January, we will have 3 dorm rooms rented at three different properties in Ipanema.  See more information about these Accommodations here

  • Students stayed at the "Che Lagarto Ipanema":
  • Ideally located between Ipanema or Leblon beaches, Che Lagarto is also just three blocks away from the famous up-scale jewelry store "H Stern".
