Optional Travel

- Weekend or Day-trips from Rio:

During the Study Abroad program in Rio, students will have free time  to explore the city or nearby attractions.  Class on Saturday morning will be followed by free time Saturday afternoon and Sunday.  While the hotels will continue to be paid for back in Rio, many students may wish to venture a little further on their own, and Summit will encourage students to do so.  We can help by suggesting transport, hotels and activities in each destination.

Foz de Iguacu (amazing waterfalls)

Iguacu falls are one of the most spectacular natural wonders on the planet.  Elanor Roosevelt summed up the spectaculare sight when she said "Poor Niagara! This makes it look like a kitchen faucet".   Learn more here

 

Salvador da Bahia

Salvador was the original capital of colonial Brazil and is currently a UNESCO World Heritage site.  A city of 3 million people, Salvador is a cultural capital of Brazil with fantastic culture, food and music.  "Salvador da Bahia has an energy and unadorned beauty that few cities can match. Often called simply Bahia by locals, Salvador is the country’s Afro-Brazilian jewel and the once magnificent capital of Portugal’s great New World colony.

Brasilia (the ultra-modern capital city)

The world's most famous planned city, and undisputed capital of modernism, Brasilia is Brazil's capital city (and UNESCO World Heritage site). Students interested in architecture should consider visiting this truly unique Brazilian city!
